Wending your way from the UK to South Africa on a self-contained truck with an average of 18 other like-minded people would have to be the ultimate adventure; wildlife watching, sunsets, camping, friends and romance, buying produce from the markets, taking the local school on with a game of football, truck stuck in mud! You have to be prepared to let go of the home comforts and to really participate.
Some favourite overland journeys include; the UK to Capetown, Capetown to Nairobi, Kathmandu to London, the Indochina loop, Santiago to Rio and Istanbul to Cairo. For something off the beaten track you could consider the amazing 25 week Trans America trip from Alaska all the way south through Canada, the US, Central America and South America to Ushuaia.
Some lucky overland adventurers tell stories of getting lost (just temporarily) in sandstorms in the Sahara, others tell of having to build a bridge to continue their journey across a muddy bog. And, if you are on an overland journey – you will have plenty of time to think...
