Rail Journeys
For sheer romance, there is nothing better than travelling by train, unhurried views of ever-changing landscapes and life at an enjoyable pace. The selection of magnificent rail journeys throughout the world is huge, the biggest problem will be choosing which ones tempts you the most.
Train trips vary from those that are self contained, where you sleep on the train through to train journeys that simply provide the transport during the day and nights are spent at local hotels. Essentially most train journeys are designed so that you can make the most of the scenery around you.

West Highland Line
The West Highland Line (aka Rathad Iarainn nan Eilean - "Iron Road to the Isles") is one of the most scenic railway lines in Britain, linking the ports of Mallaig and Oban on the west coast of Scotland to Glasgow. The line was voted the top rail journey in the world by readers of independent travel magazine Wanderlust in 2009, ahead of the iconic Trans-Siberian and the Cuzco to Machu Picchu line in Peru. The ScotRail website has since reported that the line has been voted the most scenic railway line in the world for second running.
