Italy - Cinque Terre
Meaning “Five Lands,” the quintessential villages of Cinque Terre hug the rugged coast like the beads of your favourite necklace. While you’re mesmerized by the World Heritage views, you’re also getting an aerobic workout on foot or by bike, unless you take a train or a boat!
The hamlets of Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola and Riomaggiore were fortified during the first millennium, then matched by the fortitude of their inhabitants who created stone walled terraces for the luscious legacy of lemons, olives and vines. You’ll soon acquire a taste for local gastronomic adventures based on seafood, pasta, tomatoes and potatoes not to mention the region’s sciacchetra dessert wine and limoncello liquer!
When you’ve done your dash with hilltop views and heart stopping climbs, there are peaceful piazzas and impossibly brilliant turquoise waters to swim, dive and gently revive you.

The Cinque Terre Explored
The Cinque Terre - or 'five lands' in Italian - is named for the five picturesque villages of Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola and Riomaggiore. Today, the Cinque Terre offers a glorious natural and historical setting that is best explored on foot. An extensive network of ancient mule tracks takes you along the coast through an extraordinary landscape of terraces - built by hand with stones and earth. You will explore this magical part of Italy by both land and sea, enjoying hiking, swimming and boat trips by the day and in the evening, settle in for a traditional Ligurian fish stew washed down with a glass or two of local wine.
