Italy - Sicily

Almost touching the toe of Italy, you’ll be caught and bowled over by Sicily’s complex traditions based on a varied history of Phoenician, Greek, Roman, Arab, Norman and Spanish influences. As if that’s not intriguing enough, the country that gave us Marsala wine and pistaccio nuts, is also at the mercy of two action packed volcanoes!

On a self drive and villa holiday you’ll find plenty to discover in Sicily’s capital Palermo, the cities of Messina, Catania and Agrigento and the Ancient Greek stronghold of Syracuse whether they’re amphitheatres, temples, cathedrals, domes, museums or castles. Catch a slice of Sicilian life at the food markets where the ingredients are sold alongside local dishes like pasta and swordfish!

If outdoor excursions appeal, you’ll find adventure in the National Park and glorious beach resorts along the Tyrrhenian Coast. Sicily’s small island archipelago offers fantastic dive sites, thermal pools on Vulcano and the spectacular molten Trail of Fire at night on Stromboli, if you dare!
