Photo Competition

This little girl lives in Dhaka, Bangladesh, a city of around 13 million people. In the background is her home on the outskirts of Korail, one of the largest slums in this densely populated city. Korail is on the edge of Lake Banani, sandwiched between Gulshan and Banani - two of the wealthiest areas of Dhaka. Taken in April 2010.

Runner-up Prize (2^nd Place) – Malcolm Gunn - Hummingbird at Monteverde, Costa Rica

A small café near the park entrance has feeders for these birds and a dozen or more are constantly buzzing in and feeding when the feeders are full.  A short duration flash and pre-focussing on a point behind the feeder to catch the bird as it backs out after feeding secured this shot without the feeder in the picture. Taken in January 2009.
