Sailing Greek Islands by Chris
Chris Mercer says...
We have swapped Turkey for Greece, and our villa and car for a 46foot yacht.
Currently exploring the Ionian Islands on the west coast of Greece, we picked up our yacht in Corfu and we now have two weeks sailing ahead of us.

Totally stunned at how warm and clear the sea is and as it is in the low 30's we are swimming off the boat every few hours. Evenings are very warm and still in the mid 20's. Each day we head off to another village, a bit of exploring, drinks in a taverna, some people watching and if it cools we fit in a walk. Most of the time we free anchor and take our dinghy to the town, tie up on the jetty which always seems to be in the centre of the village. Locals are out fishing, others are quietly sitting around the tavernas.
We have visited Mourtos and then to the island of Paxos where we anchored in the very cute village of Lakka, tavernas line the waterfront which is about 3 feet away! The villages have a real Venetian feel to them and are very pretty with lots of bougainvillea. The camera is getting a workout!
Our next stop was the very cute Gaios with a lovely narrow harbour and excellent deli - we buy lots of fresh salad stuff including wonderful slabs of feta and NZ lamb!! It seems to be getting hotter and we have to retreat to a taverna between 2 and 5 pm as it is quite hot and humid. Had lovely beach day at Parga on the Greece mainland and then walked into town for a late dinner at a lovely restaurant overlooking a small harbour and a small stunning little green island with an ancient white church and lovely old bell tower on it - very Greek! It is all very relaxing and we have adopted the Greek pace of life - slow!
