July 2009 had Petrea and I escape over to Ecuador for the school holidays and enjoy one of Peregrine's shorter trips through Quito, Cotopaxi and Banos as well as a 2 night Eco lodge stay in the Amazon jungle!

We also had a quick stopover in Buenos Aires for some shopping and delicious food

Amazon Eco Lodge:

If Petrea could see all the bugs around she might be afraid, but as we are in our Eco Lodge and the only light we have is a parafin lamp I think we are ok! Today we took a boat trip down the Amazon to a nature reserve. The sights and sounds were amazing and the animals even more so. The work being done by the volunteers is fantastic and rewarding for both them and the animals. Sat on our balcony for sundowners tonight I think I heard every one of today’s animals, I don’t think they are that close, but I’m not sure!

Buenos Aires:

I have just eaten dessert, not that remarkable except it is now 0215 in the morning. After 3 days we are finally on Buenos Aires time. We came out for dinner at 2230 and we were still one of the first tables. Siga la Vaca had been recommended to us, and for $25NZ it was all we could eat of the best steak Argentina has to offer, different cuts all freshly cooked over flames, just delicious. We washed it all down with a gorgeous Malbec followed by that aforementioned dessert and coffee, my kind of night out.
